On the first anniversary of the January Sixth storming of the nation's capital, it is a good time to recall that it was this time nearly 1500 years ago that the most deadly riot in world history occurred: the Nika Riots of Constantinople. These riots in 532 A.D. nearly toppled the government of Emperor Justinian, led to the deaths of 30,000 people, and left half the city in a ruin of ashes.
